Renew Your Circulation with Cardiovascular Herbs*
Cayenne stimulates blood flow, strengthening the heart and metabolism.* Cayenne is also a general tonic, specifically helpful for the circulatory, digestive, and eliminative systems.* Cayenne promotes stomach secretions and peristaltic action in the colon. Cayenne provides many nutrients, including beta-carotene, cobalt, essential fats, niacin, and zinc.
In Scientific Validation of Herbal Medicine, Daniel Mowrey, Ph.D., recommends cayenne for circulatory stimulation, blood detoxification, and occasional fatigue. Ingesting cayenne with a meal helps regulate fibrin.
"As a general stimulant of circulatory health, cayenne has no equal. I find it to be the single most useful cardiovascular herb in my practice." Matthew Wood, herbalist.
Ginger is a circulatory and digestive stimulant, promoting healthy blood flow.* In combination, cayenne and ginger stimulate circulation throughout the body.* As a catalyst, ginger combines well with other herbs and helps the body digest the more pungent cayenne. Enzyme-rich ginger root is an antioxidant that helps regulate inflamatory responses.*
Garlic/Onion are close relatives - excellent together. In combination, cayenne, ginger, garlic, and onion promote more viscous, free flowing blood.* In The Healing Benefits of Garlic, John Heinerman, Ph.D., explains why garlic is so effective: Over 30 sulfur compounds, 17 amino acids, plus chromium, selenium and germanium. Garlic contains volatile oils that are readily transported throughout the body, nurturing the circulatory, digestive, respiratory, and urinary tracts.*
Hawthorn contains flavonoids (plant chemicals) that provide direct nourishment to the heart.* In German scientific research, hawthorn has been found to regulate blood pressure already in the normal range, support the contractility of the heart muscle, and promote blood flow to the heart.* James Green, author of Male Herbal, calls hawthorn "the best tonic for the heart and circulatory system." In The Green Pharmacy, James A. Duke, Ph.D., says, "Extensive research has demonstrated that hawthorn promotes healthy heart function."
"Cayenne and hawthorn in a single capsule produces a special kind of synergism that augments the cardiotonic activity of both." Daniel Mowrey, Ph.D.

Why Cayenne?
Cayenne promotes healthy blood circulation.* It's one of the safest, most effective blood stimulant known.
Cayenne comes in various heat ranges but we feel African Birdseye and East Indian are best (fast acting, beneficial). Cayenne Company uses a combination of 90,000 HU East Indian and 130,000 HU African Birdseye Cayenne. We combine cayenne with ginger root in all of our formulas.
Cayenne can be found in liquid tinctures, bulk powder or spice, and in a capsule. Cayenne in a capsule should be taken just before sitting down to eat or during the meal. It's also a good idea to open a capsule and sprinkle some cayenne directly into your food. (Works well on eggs or in soup, chili, etc.) Cayenne is especially good in tomato juice. In any form, cayenne works in the bloodstream, but taking it in food or drink hastens cayenne's stimulant value.*
Sensitivity
to cayenne capsules may occur (especially in the morning). At first, take just one capsule with a meal. Avoid taking cayenne capsules with any hot drink. As the day goes on, you may be able to take your cayenne capsules with less food. Some people take a capsule just before retiring for the evening, aiding the body's fasting process.*
As a catalyst, cayenne helps other herbs work more effectively.* Cayenne contains capsaicin, the fiery plant chemical (fatty acid) that provides the heat and the bulk of the benefit.* The safe "high" that some people experience when eating cayenne is from the capsaicin. Scientists theorize that in response to the discomfort produced by the "burn," the brain releases endorphins which, at high levels, can create a sensation of pleasure.*
Why Garlic?
Combined with cayenne, ginger, hawthorn and onion, garlic is a key ingredient offered in Heart Food Caps and Cayenne Plus.
Allicin (a sulfur-bearing compound) is often cited as the key component in garlic, but garlic contains approximately 70 active ingredients.*
You don't need extracts or isolated compounds to get results. Fresh or dry, regular whole garlic is beneficial.* (The Chinese traditionally aged whole clove garlic in vinegar for two to three years to enhance its medicinal properties.)
Together, cayenne, ginger, garlic and onion - found in both Heart Food Caps and Cayenne Plus - promote healthy blood circulation.*
Why Hawthorn?
The late Dr. Robert C. Atkins wrote, "In terms of promoting healthy heart function, nothing impresses me as much as hawthorn..."
As a tonic, hawthorn has been valued for centuries. Numerous European studies have demonstrated that the use of hawthorn can
support overall heart health by:
- promoting the flow of blood and oxygen to and from the heart*
- supporting healthy circulation*
- increasing endurance*
- maintaining healthy blood vessels*
- maintaining healthy blood pressure already in the normal range*
The effects of hawthorn as a heart tonic are gentle and best achieved slowly over time (3-6 months).* Hawthorn has been shown to be safe for long-term use, with no toxic side effects and with few exceptions no interactions with prescriptions drugs.*
Warning: In large doses, hawthorn may increase the effects of digitalis (Lanoxin). Do not use hawthorn while taking Lanoxin except under the advice and supervision of your doctor. Lasix, Lanoxin, and ACE inhibitors - can be toxic and require that patients be carefully monitored.
When will I get results?
Cayenne is fast-acting and you may feel it right away. Cayenne promotes circulation immediately and you may feel more energy the first time you try it. If you take too much too soon, however, you may have diarrhea and/or feel sick or pain in your stomach.
If you take too much too soon, take less or take them with a larger meal. Things like butter, flax oil, ice cream and yogurt cool down cayenne in the stomach much better than water. Also, most people enjoy their cayenne when they take it before not after eating. Also, don't hesitate to open the capsule and mix the cayenne into your food or tomato juice. Cayenne in the mouth alerts the body earlier to "something hot is on its way."
We recommend starting out with Cayenne Plus (10 percent cayenne) or Heart Food Caps (25 percent cayenne) unless you have tried high heat cayenne in the past. Cayenne Plus and Heart Food Caps contain the same mix of herbs except Cayenne Plus contains kelp and less cayenne. Power Caps are a good choice for people who already eat or supplement with garlic.
Power Caps (50% cayenne) are too hot for some people the first time around. If you start out with Power Caps, please be sure to take just one with a meal. If it goes well, increase dosage as desired. We do not recommend Power Plus to first time users. Power Plus contains 75 percent 130,000 heat unit cayenne. Ginger, alone, buffers this highest heat product in your stomach.
Benefits may occur when you begin taking herbs like cayenne. You may go through some detoxification that requires you to back down a little and start over with a lower dose. Remember, you may feel slightly worse at first or a whole lot better. We are all different and no two people will react the same way to our circulation formulas.
